CT Computed Tomography Inspection Systems
Computed Tomography, the CT, is computing process for the X-ray systems. The CT will use the data captured by X-ray system to calculate the 3D volume reconstruction with use of the special algorithm. The reconstructed model can be displayed as a 3D model or as a set of layers in any axis. Capture the dataset for CT reconstruction can be done by different ways. In industry application, the dataset is captured when the object is rotating and X-ray tube with the detector is in the stable position. For the movement, the positioner table or robot can be used. For the case of high accurate measurements and precise metrology, the granite table is used as a base for the whole CT system. The granite tables will provide 100% long-term stability.
CT systems are very useful in the cases where the X-ray cannot provide suitable diagnostic information. It can be caused when the object is too difficult, so in the image the layer is too overlapping and covers the place with the defect. The different situation is when the higher energy resolution is need (for example, the case, when you need to see small bubble or crack in base material).
The CT reconstruction can provide much better view to structure of the material than X-ray. It is very need in foundry. Especially during casting of the Al casts, it is need to check the porosity of the cast. Thanks to CT you can inspect whole volume layer per layer. CT analytic tool can provide the automatic porosity detection and also the measurement of the volume. The specific volumes can be colored with some color range. It will help to operator to make decision if the porosity is over the acceptable threshold or not.
In field of CT scanners we cooperate with Fraunhofer Insitute in Norimberg, Germany. For example, they prepared compact system, micro CTportable. This CT scanner with low weight and small dimensions can be used for small object analysis in laboratories or other research institutions.
